Borders

Western Australia’s land border extends north-south a total of 1869 kilometres with a slight kink (127 metres) at Surveyor Generals Corner.

The WA/NT border extends from the Joseph Bonaparte Gulf to Surveyor Generals Corner, a distance of 1237 kilometres.

The WA/SA border extends from Surveyor Generals Corner to Wilson Bluff, a distance of 632 kilometres.

There are three major crossings and two of these (Border Village, Eyre Highway and on the Victoria Highway about 40 km east of Kununurra) are surveilled for the movement of restricted imports and other matters. Travellers on the Great Central Road are reminded of their responsibility to ‘do the right thing’, however, enforcement at the border is rare.
