There are 450 pastoral stations in Western Australia covering about 33% of the state or a total of 860,000 square kilometres - together they would make up the 30th biggest country in the world.
Ask permission to enter a pastoral property, preferably before the Trip. If in the field when you want to visit a station it could be a trip of many kilometres to the homestead. Or you may encounter locked gates with instructions to make contact by phone - out of phone range.
When approaching the homestead slow down - dust, kids and pets.
When on the property don't camp near watering points. Apart from them being possibly unpleasant because of flies and other pests, your presence could prevent stock from getting their daily drink.
Hopefully people reading this understand the necessity of caring for the place (removing rubbish, not causing damage) to ensure the location remains open to visitors.
The Tracks Australia database lists 45 Western Australian pastoral properties that provide 'station stays'. More than 300 Trips are in 'station country'.
