The eastern boundary of the Pilbara Region is defined by roads/tracks on the limit of pastoral leases (Permits required to travel some of the roads).
The southern boundary is from Exmouth to the North West Coastal Highway then eastward through pastoral country to just north of Kumarina Roadhouse on the Great Northern Highway.
