Oakley Dam was constructed nearly 100 years ago to supply water for steam powered railway engines operating into Pinjarra as part of the government railway network.
With views over the Alcoa bauxite refinery and a large swathe of the coastal plain, when full it takes on the guise of an industrial scale infinity pool.
Oakley Dam Lookout 250 metres west of the dam, accessible via a walk path, provides panoramic, virtually unobstructed views of the coastal plain. You know you are on the Scarp.
Oakley Dam is a virtually unknown gem on the Drive Darling Scarp. It is worth the 800 metre detour off the Main Route. The turnoff is not signposted.
Back to Jarrahdale to Harvey.
