Drive Darling Scarp

Outline

The Darling Scarp extends from near Moora to south of Pemberton, a distance about 450 kilometres. The tracks to follow the Scarp total 670 kilometres and optional trips at various points along Drive Darling Scarp add a further 730 kilometres.

The Scarp is part of the ancient Darling Fault that is exposed from Shark Bay to Albany, a distance of more than 1000 kilometres, making it one of the longest faults on the planet.

The Route

The line of the Darling Scarp displayed here is the best rendering currently available. It may be modified slightly over time as better information becomes available. The aim of this Road Trip is to follow the line of the Scarp as closely as possible – in actuality one compromise after another (such as getting around rivers that cut through the Scarp). Along the way a few ‘options’ will enhance the experience.

In the past 200 years the Darling Scarp has been changed dramatically. Apart from being named after an absent British bureaucrat, houses, quarries, farms, orchards, National Parks, roads, dams and other developments have impacted the forests and bush forever.
